Creating a Linux driver for the SanDisk Connect plus WiFI+128MByte Flash card

IRQ issues

Postby hns on Sun Jun 13, 2004 8:02 pm

Hi,
I have looked in your traces and found:
Anton:
Code: Select all
Checking CFTABLE_ENTRY 0x01 (default 0x01)
IO window settings: cfg->io.nwin=1 dflt.io.nwin=1
io->flags = 0x0047, io.base=0x0000, len=128
hostap_cs: Registered netdevice wifi0
wifi0: Interrupt, but dev not OK
hostap_cs: index 0x01: Vcc 3.3, irq 39, io 0xf6000000-0xf600007f

and
Zsolt:
Code: Select all
Checking CFTABLE_ENTRY 0x01 (default 0x01)
IO window settings: cfg->io.nwin=1 dflt.io.nwin=1
io->flags = 0x0047, io.base=0x0000, len=128
hostap_cs: Registered netdevice wifi0
wifi0: Interrupt, but dev not OK
hostap_cs: index 0x01: Vcc 3.3, irq 35, io 0xc4860000-0xc486007f
wifi0: init command completed too quickly - retrying

So I think we should fix this "wifi0: Interrupt, but dev not OK" thing first.

Could you please grep your source code where this message is generated? And probably there is some comment describing what is going on.

What I also see is that the irq number is different.

Ok, here is a short summary of my experience with my (wrongly)
bought Sandisk ConnectPlus 128MB+Wifi Card.
Info: I'm running 'Wireless'-applet in the OZ-Launcher, so there may be some
messages caused by it.

My entry in the pcmcia config:
Code: Select all
device "hostap_cs"
   class "network" module "hostap", "hostap_cs"

card "SanDisk ConnectPlus WiFi+128Mb"
  manfid 0xd601, 0x0101
  bind "hostap_cs" to 0
  bind "ide-cs" to 1

Memory support doesn't work at all if trying to use the wireless part as well. The memory part alone works perfectly with this entry:
Code: Select all
card "SanDisk ConnectPlus 128Mb"
  manfid 0xd601, 0x0101
  bind "ide-cs" to 1

My System:

Hope that helped anyone.
Is there anything i can do to help ppl get the card to work?
If it is more complicated ( compiling, debugging etc..) a step by step would be cool ;)

Do i need to post this in the hostap-mailing list too (or are most of the hostap hackers reading here too)?
Can i do this without subscribing to it? Jjust curious, i'm not using ML often ;)

I just wondered about what would happen if i use this configuration:
Code: Select all
card "SanDisk ConnectPlus WiFi+128Mb"
  manfid 0xd601, 0x0101
  bind "hostap_cs" to 1
#  bind "ide-cs" to 1

Mind the 1 instead of the 0 in the hostap_cs line.

Here is the dmesg output:

Doesn't seem to work as well ;)
Why is the wlan device used too here?

Werner,
1. Submitting reports like these is already a lot of help for the (small) community which is forming in this forum!

2. Anton has recently provided a (short) description how to compile hostap (is stored here in this forum)

3. The hostap-maintainers would appreciate that (just make a copy&paste from this forum) - although I think they focus on very different issues than the connect+ initialization issues.

4. The hostap main hackers are on the hostap list only - this forum has been installed to collect & archive all the special connect+ issues (which have been interspersed into approx. 3000 mails per year) and I assume only those interested in this card come here. But I am doing some cross-posting to keep the information flowing.

5. I think the hostap mailing list is on subscription base only - and you will receive approx. 3000 mails per year = 10 per day! And you have to filter out the one relevant mail every 4 weeks. That was the main reason why I have created this forum - to allow to focus on the connect+ issue here and to have a real archive.

1. Submitting reports like these is already a lot of help for the (small) community which is forming in this forum!

Thanks for the response, that's good to hear :)
hns wrote:2. Anton has recently provided a (short) description how to compile hostap (is stored here in this forum)

I've tried to follow them today (making a hostap_cs module, not the kernel-rebuild), but i'm getting problem after problem (i always hated compiling anything that has more than one file :) )
Code: Select all
make
make -C /usr/src/linux SUBDIRS=/mnt/hdb3/temp/dev/hostap-driver-0.2.5/driver/modules \
        MODVERDIR=/mnt/hdb3/temp/dev/hostap-driver-0.2.5/driver/modules modules
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/kernel-headers-2.6.4-1-k7'
  SPLIT   include/linux/autoconf.h -> include/config/*
make[1]: scripts/split-include: Kommando nicht gefunden
make[1]: *** [include/config/MARKER] Fehler 127
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/kernel-headers-2.6.4-1-k7'
make: *** [2.6] Fehler 2

make obviously uses the (wrong) 2.6.x kernel sources, but i though it only needs the header files from the 2.4 files?

How do i tell make to do point 3 in the howto (use arm):
3. Select proper configuration based on your Z model (arm/arch/def-configs/sl5500up for 5500 US model)

I used the script dev-arm-qpe.sh (from here to set the environment for arm , but i'm not sure if this is doing anything that helps me.

Thanks again,
Werner
